Hello, my name is Pratiksha, though many people find it easier to call me Pretty.
I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2010 from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Westville. My professional career spans 15 years, primarily within Special Educational Needs (SEN) settings in South Africa. I’ve worked in both rural and urban schools, adapting to diverse linguistic and socio-economic backgrounds.
I enjoy working in SEN environments, particularly with students who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, Autism, and other complex diagnoses. This collaborative approach allows me to address the diverse challenges these students face and provide comprehensive support tailored to their unique needs.
I’m passionate about supporting learners and their families in ways that fit their routines, cultures, and home environments, ensuring effective carryover of therapy. As a South African, I love being outdoors and exploring with my family—mountains are my favourite place in the world! I also enjoy discovering new places, foods, and cultures.
If my best friend had to describe me, she’d say I’m gentle, calm, and kind, with a quick sense of humour. The Words First value that resonates most with me is interdisciplinary practice, as I find great fulfilment in collaborating with diverse professionals to better support our students.
