Hi, my name is Nonjabulo.
I studied at Stellenbosch University and qualified as a Speech Therapist in March 2021. Thereafter, I worked at a district hospital close to my hometown Ixopo, Kwazulu-Natal. After completing my community service year, I worked at a special school for learners with neurodiverse needs. Shortly, thereafter I moved to private practice, where I worked with patients of all ages.
I have a special interest in the paediatric population and feel that it is important that we help them reach their full potential.
The Words First value that resonates with me the most is child centred because I work with vulnerable children, e.g., due to health conditions, certain disabilities, or is a young child in care. I believe in promoting the wellbeing and safety of all children, whether it be online, outside the home, or in the school environment. I believe in being proactive and using early intervention to ensure that children’s best interests are achieved so as to allow children to be independent and thrive in their relevant community. With moral degeneration, I believe children are the most susceptible to being neglected or abused. With the development of healthcare, e.g., from the time children with Autism were institutionalised, to blame shifting for the disorder, to offering special services, I feel like the health sector has made substantial progress in the identification and holistic treatment of children. Child centred, too, means ensuring that parents and families are educated in understanding that disorders are not subject to a certain cultures and countries. It’s about all health care professionals globally coming together to ensure evidence-based treatment of all children that have an impairment. Children are fun spirited and eager to learn and deserve to be protected at all costs as there are our future/ deserve a bright future.
In my spare time I enjoy cooking, reading books, and going to the gym. I would have to say my favourite book is “You’re not broke, you’re pre rich” by Mapalo Makhu because it teaches setting daily financial goals in an easy manner, and it’s easily relatable.
