Hiya! My name is Cara, and I’m originally from America!
I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders from Elms College in Massachusetts before completing my Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2017 and moved to England in 2018.
Since then, I have worked across a variety of mainstream, specialist and private settings, supporting children and young people with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs. Since joining Words First in 2021, I have continued to develop my expertise in early intervention and now spend much of my clinical time supporting children in the early years, alongside helping to shape and develop our early years service. I particularly enjoy working closely with parents and carers, empowering them to support their child’s communication through everyday routines, play and meaningful interactions.
Alongside my clinical work, I also work as a Clinical Supervisor, supporting Speech and Language Therapists across a range of school settings. I enjoy mentoring colleagues and sharing knowledge to help ensure the highest quality of care for the children and young people we support.
The Words First value that resonates most with me is collaboration. I love that we are always learning from one another, sharing ideas and supporting each other to achieve the best possible outcomes for the children and families we work with. It is such a welcoming, supportive and knowledgeable team, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of it.
Outside of work, you’ll usually find me travelling whenever I can, keeping active or spending quality time with my family.
If you asked my best friend to describe me, they would probably say I’m friendly, positive and bubbly!
