Occupational Therapy
Helping to turn ‘can’t’ into ‘can’ for everyday living
Early Years: Helping you give all children the best start in life
Occupational therapy’s EYFS programme is focussed on helping children acquire and improve the skills needed for daily activities, in the classroom, at play and in social interactions.
- Through early identification of a child’s physical, sensory and perceptual abilities and targeted interdisciplinary interventions, OT can support and reduce developmental challenges, sensory processing difficulties, motor skill delay, learning needs, behaviours that challenge, and increase independence and engagement in meaningful daily activity.
- Based on comprehensive assessment, the OT will work with the child, parents/carers and other professionals to set specific and achievable goals, tailored to address the child's unique needs and challenges.
- The duration and frequency of OT sessions is based on the needs of the child and the level of support required.
- Flexible packages from weekly visits to one off training sessions.
- Full training, support and guidance for your TAs.
- Occupational therapy that is based on current research and is shaped and informed through unique collaboration with the Words First’s team of Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists, Play Therapists and Counsellors.

- Bespoke training is offered to individual staff to lead larger group interventions, if needed

Secondary Schools: It’s never too late to make a big difference
Reducing the impact of sensory processing difficulties, motor skill delay, learning needs and behaviours that challenge on a student’s emerging independence, learning, SEMH, behaviour and routes to employment.
- We carry out targeted and specialist interventions and train support staff to assist individual students and in small groups (with or without EHCPs), including for everyday age-appropriate activities such as cooking, accessing public transport and leisure activities in their community.
- We deliver training that raises staff awareness of the importance of potential barriers to functional independence and meaningful occupation, resulting in confident staff who are able to identify students in need and plan the appropriate support for them
