Hello, my name is Stephanie!

I graduated with a Master’s in Speech and Language Therapy from City University in 2024. My interest in language began during my undergraduate studies in English Literature and Language, where I also volunteered as a youth worker. In that role, I worked closely with young people from diverse and complex backgrounds, gaining valuable insight into the critical role communication plays in emotional expression, connection, and well-being.

Many of the young people I worked with faced difficulties expressing their emotions and needs, which often led to frustration, behavioural challenges, and social isolation. Supporting them in developing their communication through spoken language, social interaction, active listening, and self-awareness showed me just how powerful speech and language support can be in helping young people grow in confidence and thrive.

This experience deeply shaped my approach to therapy and confirmed my passion for working with children and young people. I believe that communication is key to helping them feel understood, valued, and connected within their homes, schools, and communities.

In my current role at Words First, I focus on developing speech, language, and social communication skills to support young people in overcoming challenges, building resilience, and succeeding both socially and academically.

The Words First value that resonates most with me is “student’s best interest”, as it places the child at the heart of everything we do. This holistic, strengths-based approach ensures that each young person receives personalised support tailored to their unique needs, empowering them to reach their full potential.

In my spare time, you’ll find me weight training or running at the gym, enjoying good food, shopping, or exploring new travel destinations. If you asked my best friend to describe me, I think they’d say I’m compassionate, driven, and fun!
