Hi! My name is Illian. I am a trilingual Speech and Language Therapist of Arabic origin, originally from Sweden. I studied at the University of Gothenburg and graduated with a Master of Science in Speech and Language Pathology in May 2023. Shortly after, I moved to the UK and joined Words First.
I am currently working in a specialist school with three sites across London, supporting children and young people with Autism and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs – two areas that are especially close to my heart. I have previously worked in a primary school ARP with a focus on Autism, as well as in a mainstream secondary school.
I am passionate about supporting children with communication difficulties, and I hold a special place in my heart for those with complex needs or challenging backgrounds. I believe that every bit of progress – no matter how small – is meaningful and worth celebrating. Whether I’m working directly with a child or alongside their teachers and families, I aim to create a supportive, joyful space where growth is recognised and encouraged every step of the way.
The Words First value that resonates most deeply with me is Respect. I believe that respect is the foundation of trust in any professional relationship. Working within a diverse team of therapists and school staff members – from a wide range of backgrounds, religions, and ethnicities – has enriched me both professionally and personally. It also reflects the diversity of the students and families we support every day. For me, treating everyone with kindness and respect is essential.
When I’m not working, I love spending quality time with my loved ones. I also enjoy travelling and exploring new places around the world. If you were to ask my closest friends to describe me, I think they’d say I’m an empath, calm, and supportive.
