Hello, my name is Tayla.
I studied at the University of Cape Town and completed my undergraduate Honours degree in Speech and Language Pathology in 2017. In addition to my academic training, I am a qualified DIR: Floortime practitioner, having completed the DIR: Floortime professional course, and I have also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Sensory Integration.
Following graduation, I spent two years working in South Africa’s public healthcare sector within a large tertiary hospital. This was an invaluable experience that allowed me to support both children and adults with a wide range of communication and feeding needs. I then spent a year at our sister company, the Kids First Clinic SA, where I primarily worked with early years children and deepened my interest in autism and sensory integration.
In 2021, I moved to the United Kingdom to join the Words First team. My clinical interests include autism, complex needs, sensory integration, and early years intervention. I am passionate about delivering care that is both interdisciplinary and holistic, ensuring that each child and their family has access to individualised support that helps them reach their full potential across all areas of life.
I currently work primarily at the Kids First Therapy Centre, where I have the privilege of working closely with each child and their family. My approach is centred on collaboration, tailoring therapy goals to each child’s specific needs and ensuring all professionals around the child work cohesively to support their development.
Working within Words First has given me access to a vibrant, collaborative team of professionals, and I value the continuous learning and growth that this environment fosters. I especially enjoy finding creative ways to engage clients in sessions, using a sensory integrative framework that supports meaningful progress in a fun and functional way.
In my spare time, I love cooking and baking. If you were to ask my best friend to describe me, I think she would say I am loyal, caring, and accountable.
The Words First value that resonates most with me is interdisciplinary, as it represents the integration and collaboration of diverse fields, perspectives, and expertise. In today’s complex world, drawing on multiple disciplines is not only beneficial—it’s essential for delivering truly impactful care.
