Hello, my name is Andrew, and I am the Head of Psychology for Words First. I hold a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Johannesburg in South Africa. My journey in psychology began with extensive experience in educational settings, particularly working with learners requiring special educational needs. I have always been passionate about working with children, dedicated to helping them achieve their fullest potential.

After completing my Master’s in 2016, I joined Cedarwood School, where I had the opportunity to work with both Preparatory and College students during my internship year. Following this, I registered as an Educational Psychologist with the HPCSA in 2018. Since then, I have dedicated my career to supporting schools in South Africa through psycho-educational assessments, concession applications, group social interventions, individual and play therapy, and staff development.

During my professional journey, I have honed my ability to remain emotionally mature, adaptable, and effective under pressure. I am passionate about developing, growing, and supporting others, which is a cornerstone of my approach.

Outside of work, I cherish spending time with my family, playing golf, cycling, watching sports, and enjoying the great outdoors.

The Words First values resonate deeply with me: respect, collaboration and support, open channels of communication, and a place for ideas. Respect is essential for fostering an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives are honoured. Collaboration and support allow us to leverage each other’s strengths for collective success. Open channels of communication ensure everyone feels valued and heard. A place for ideas encourages continuous innovation and improvement, driving our mission forward. I resonate with all these values because they collectively create a supportive and progressive organisation where we put the children’s best interests at heart while working together as a multidisciplinary team.
