Staying Connected: Words First Locality Event Round-Up
Words First began as a small team of passionate therapists with a close-knit, family feel. Fast forward more than a decade, and we’ve grown into a thriving community of over 150 therapists – and counting.
As we’ve expanded, we’ve stayed true to our roots: staying connected, supporting one another, and building meaningful relationships. One of the ways we nurture that connection is through our Locality Events – regular get-togethers where therapists can relax, recharge, and enjoy each other’s company outside of work.
For those new to London, these events are a brilliant way to meet people, make friends, and explore all the amazing things the city has to offer. For everyone else, they’re a chance to reconnect, share stories, and remember why being part of Words First feels like being part of something genuinely special.
Here’s a look back at some of the highlights:
🇿🇦 South African Heritage Day Braai
A highlight of the year was our South African Heritage Day celebration—complete with a proper braai. Set in leafy Vauxhall, the event brought warmth, music, and the smell of sizzling food to the riverside. There was a proper South African braai (BBQ), international street food, and plenty of vegetarian and vegan options to keep everyone happy. A live DJ set the mood, and the Zulu dancers were a highlight—bringing energy, tradition, and something truly special to the day. It was a celebration of culture, community, and shared stories, with therapists from all backgrounds joining in the fun.
🎭 Comedy Club Night
Sometimes the best kind of therapy is laughter. We headed to a buzzing comedy club in Waterloo for a night of belly laughs and big smiles. It was the perfect way to wind down after a busy week and kick start the October half term.
🎨 Pottery Painting
This one was all about slowing down. A small group gathered to paint pottery in a relaxed, creative space. There was time to chat, reflect, and enjoy the quiet satisfaction of turning blank ceramics into something personal. Calm, low-pressure, and surprisingly therapeutic.
🎬 Sunday at the Cinema
On a wintry February Sunday, we headed to the Electric Cinema in White City for a cosy viewing of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. Plush seats, warm drinks, and a film we could all enjoy—it was simple, easy, and exactly what was needed to reset before Monday.
⛳ Mini Golf Madness
In March, we turned up the energy with a glow-in-the-dark mini golf night at Puttshack. Between the neon lights and unexpected trick shots, it was non-stop entertainment. A brilliant way to let off steam, share a few laughs, and try (and fail) to beat the course record.
🧠 Quiz Night Fun
In May, we flexed our general knowledge muscles at a lively quiz night. It was full of laughter, head-scratching moments, and just enough friendly rivalry to keep things interesting. Whether you came for the trivia or just the chats, it was a great midweek break.
🎯 Darts Night
With a bit of healthy competition and a lot of shouting “So close!”, our darts night delivered good vibes all round. The event had a relaxed atmosphere and a few surprising bulls-eyes. Turns out, some of us have a hidden talent for darts—and some of us… definitely don’t!
As always, our Locality Events are about more than just the activity, they’re about the people. Every catch-up, quiz, and shared laugh helps us stay grounded in what really matters: connection, joy, and belonging.
We can’t wait to see what the next season of events brings!
