Hello, my name is Bhavini.

I completed my bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, in 2015. During my community service year, I gained valuable experience working at a district hospital with both adult and paediatric populations. Following that, I spent a year working at a school for the Deaf in the public sector, and then three years in the private sector at a special needs school.

Additionally, I managed my own practice for three years at a special needs school and a multidisciplinary medical centre. Throughout my career, I have developed a strong proficiency in working within multidisciplinary teams. I collaborate with educators, therapists, and families to create tailored intervention plans and support systems for children with diverse needs.

My primary area of interest is working with the paediatric population, particularly those with neurodiverse needs. I have experience in managing complex communication difficulties, aural rehabilitation, auditory processing disorders, literacy challenges, and developmental language disorders. I have also provided Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems for individuals with severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders.

I believe in inclusivity and that every child should have equal access to fully participate in the world. Every child has a voice, and it is our responsibility to help them find it. I live my purpose every day as a Speech and Language Therapist.

The Words First value that resonates most with me is interdisciplinary. Our primary goal is to ensure that every child has the resources and tools to reach their full potential. By working in a team, we bring together all the tools in our respective boxes to develop individualised plans that help each child we encounter achieve their greatest potential.

In my spare time, I enjoy walking, spending time with friends and family, travelling, learning about different cultures, and trying new cuisines. My friends describe me as compassionate, genuine, and heartfelt.
